Our Phuturelabs label has been graced by material from producers such as S-Type and Hostage (in his Wira guise) alongside introducing new talent to the world with debut releases from Cruffy, River of Slime and more and for the 10th outing we welcome two of our firm favourites back to remix each other’s material.
First up is Broken20’s Production Unit. His “Bridge EP” took in elements of classic early house with sprinklings of IDM, left of centre electronica and dub and for this 10th release on the label he’s remixed Cruffy’s “The Gimlet” from the “Flying High EP”. The original was a sparse slab of house goodness heavy on the low end and nostalgia fuel and Mr Unit has changed things up quite considerably for his rework. The end result is a beautiful 8 minute beast that defies easy genre tagging with its haunting atmospherics and perfectly placed percussive elements while also retaining the lower frequencies of the original.
Cruffy himself takes a break from writing material for Phuturelabs fave Huntleys & Parlmers and pops up next to take on Production Unit’s “A Broken, Rusted Angel”, the lead track from the aforementioned “Bridge EP”. The original was a brilliantly spacey slice of dubbed out house goodness and the rework strips the track back to its bones and slides in a dark disco-esque bassline to create the perfect number for those late nights and early mornings in random warehouses.
